STRECKER’S GIANT-SKIPPER, ( Megathymus streckeri)
This large skipper is found in western prairies and rocky slopes with yuccas. I’ve seen them perched on the dried flower stalk from the last year’s bloom. These are impressive butterflies, be prepared to have them flush and fly to the next county. A lot of hiking goes into one good image.
