SUMMER AZURE, (Celastrina neglecta)
At one time all of the azure butterflies were regarded as one variable species.  Now they have been split up into nine different species.  The Summer Azure, (Celastrina neglecta), is  common in the eastern half of the U.S.  As its name suggests, it emerges in the summer.  Because of the very recent taxonomic rearrangement, ID to species may be difficult.  All are avid “mudpuddlers.”
