WESTERN PINE ELFIN, (Callophrys eryphon)
A common western North American butterfly with some outposts in the northern Great Lakes area and Manitoba. There is one late spring brood and where it overlaps with the Eastern Pine Elfin, (Callophrys niphon), it may be hard to separate. In likely areas, I’ve had luck whomping a tree trunk with a heavy stick to flush them.
