Tribes Theclini and Eumaeini, The Hairstreaks
A large group of mainly small butterflies many with tails on their hind wings. Except for the scrub hairstreaks, most in this group perch with their wings closed. While perched, they rub their hind wings together drawing attention to a false head and eyespot on the underside of the hind wings. Many are found with a V chunk of wing missing that was probably a bird pecking at the false head and allowing the butterfly to escape.
