ORANGE SKIPPERLING, (Copaeodes aurantiaca)
A common southern U.S. butterfly that can be found in arid canyons as well as gardens. This species has multiple broods and flies from spring to fall. I’ve found it to be jumpy when using flash and hard to follow when it zips off, especially if my chin is on the ground and my elbows are in gravel.
