Family Nymphalidae, The Brush-Footed Butterflies

This is a very large worldwide family made up of subfamily groups that used to be recognized as their own family.  The one thing in common with all of these varied butterflies is the front pair of legs have been significantly reduced to brush-like stumps, hence the name “brushfoots.”  This also gives the appearance of having only two pairs of legs.  The next groupings below are subfamilies.
Heliconians and Fritillaries
Leafwings
Admirals and Sisters
Snouts
Crescents, Anglewings, etc.
Emperors
Milkweed Butterflies
Satyrs
