Dragonflies and Damselflies, Order Odonata
One of the most recognized of insects, the dragonflies have been around for millions of years.  Those original dragonflies had wingspans up to 2 feet.  Their larvae are aquatic and most adults are not found far from water.  These insects are extremely beneficial and as a whole, consume literally tons of mosquitoes per day.  Many birders, having filled out a large “life list,” have transferred to observing dragonflies and damselflies.
