WEIDEMEYER’S ADMIRAL, (Limenitis weidemeyerii)
A beautiful butterfly found in the Rocky Mountains and the Great Basin in woodlands and streamsides.  The same as its relatives, this species is drawn to scat and mud.  There is one summer brood.  I had the privilege to meet butterfly collector James Oberfoell from Sentinel Butte in North Dakota.  All of the North Dakota subspecies of Weidemeyer’s Admiral, (Limenitis weidemeyerii oberfoelli) are named after him.
