VICEROY, (Limenitis archippus)
A common and widespread North American butterfly who’s caterpillars eat willows. This butterfly is the famous mimic of the Monarch, (Danaus plexippus). It used to be thought the Viceroy was a Batesian mimic, but now it’s been shown to have distasteful properties and would therefore be considered a Müllerian mimic. It flies from spring to fall with 2 to 3 broods.
