COMMON BUCKEYE, (Junonia coenia)
A familiar and beautiful sight across most of the U.S., this butterfly is one of the most stunning around. I frequently tell people they don’t have to travel to the tropics to find gorgeous butterflies, just look for this one in their backyard. A fresh individual observed up close will not be soon forgotten. It flies from spring to fall with multiple broods. An avid flower visitor, the best chance to see one up close is when gathering nectar.
