AMERICAN LADY, (Vanessa virginiensis)
A common butterfly found throughout most of the U.S. There are multiple broods from spring to fall and this species can be found in most any habitat. It is an avid flower visitor and when gathering nectar it can be examined closer to separate it from its cousin, the Painted Lady, (Vanessa cardui). For a description, I refer you to the excellent book, Kaufman Field Guide to Butterflies of North America.
